Melissa Callaway Moody, Director, Pre-k Teacher
Melissa grew up in Orange Beach as a member of one of the founding families of Orange
Beach.  She is a Foley High School graduate and a graduate of the University of Montevallo.  
As owner and Director of Discovery Island, "Ms. Lissa" as the children call her, has taken over
520 hours training in Early Childhood Education and Pre-School Management. She has been
married 33 years to her husband and co-owner Eddie R. Moody.  They have 2 children,
William, who is 28, is a Troy University graduate and currently lives in Los Angeles. They also
have a daughter, Tessa, who is 23 is a graduate of Lander University in South Carolina. Both
children attended Discovery Island in its beginning years. Melissa was an officer for 6 years
in her church, St. Jude's Lutheran Church in Gulf Shores, where she has been a member
since returning from Atlanta. She is a member of the Children's Policy Council of Baldwin
County. In December of 2008 Ms. Melissa became the first Director in Baldwin County
certified by the State of Alabama in the state's newly mandated Alabama Early Learning

Very specific minimum credentials are required of all of the staff employed by Discovery Island Child
Development Center.  As you read about each individual Team Member please keep in mind that all of the
teachers have met these common standards.
All DI teachers have:
Katherine Hall, Assistant to the Director
Kate was born and raised in Louisiana.  She graduated from Louisiana State University with
a BA in psychology. She enjoys working with young children and helping them learn
academically, socially, and emotionally.   She firmly believes that years from now, a child may
suffering Saints fan.  Her favorite time of the year is football season!  She attends church
locally with her children.
Esther Owen, Substitute Teacher and Assistant Director
Ms. Esther has been with Discovery Island for 13 years.  During this time she has been both a
part time substitute and a full time lead teacher in the infant room, young two year old room,
and the three year old room.  Esther is also a trusted key holder to the center who Ms. Melissa
relies on to do any and all of the daily management requirements of the Center when Ms. Kate
is out for the day.  Ms. Esther has taken over 140 hours of training while working at Discovery
Island helping her excel as a preschool teacher.  She is currently in school working on her
degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood.  Esther enjoys time
with her three children, all graduates of Discovery Island's PreK program, and her husband of
15 years. They attend Genesis Church in Gulf Shores.

Tiffany Robinson, Infant Teacher
Tiffany Applewhite Robinson is a native of Mississippi where she attended Lanier High School
in Jackson.   She was a member of the Award winning Rangerette Dance ensemble.  She also
served as a junior achievement volunteer for kindergarten aged children during her senior
year.  After graduating with top honors in her senior class, she went on to Jackson State
University to follow her passion for teaching young children.  There obtained a Bachelor's of
Science Degree in Childcare and Family Education.  She graduated as a dean's list scholar
and with Magna Cum Laude honors fall 2006.  After college,she began her teaching career at
various learning centers in the city of Jackson serving as  a young children's  teacher for over 5
yrs.  Most of her time was with infant classrooms. She is married to Micheal Robinson, a
United States marine and they have one son Karmell-Frank Robinson who is currently
enrolled in Discovery Island's Pre-School classroom. She also has a love for
fashion,dance,the beach, and participating in activities with her son.  
Rebecca Henley, 3 Year Old Teacher
Ms. Becca, originally from Prairie du Chien, WI, has worked in the field of Child Care for 10
years.  She was our one year teacher until the birth of her first child, Benjamin.  At that time
she took an extended maternity leave.  She chose to come back in a substitute position
allowing her more time at home with her own infant.  For the last couple of years she has
been full time in one of our two 3 year old classrooms.    She is in her fourth year as part of
the Discovery Island team.  She loves her two dogs.  She has been married to her husband,
Justin since 2012.  Ms Becca enjoys going to the beach and playing with her son, Benny.  
Currently, while working, she is also a full time student working on her Bachelor of Science
in Elementary Education.  She hopes to teach first grade.
Kristina Hilton,  3 Year Old Teacher
Kristina was born and raised in Pearl Mississippi, graduating from Pearl High School in
2006. In 2009 she moved to Foley, Alabama.  When she was 23 she decided to go to Bible
School to become a youth pastor. Graduating in 2013 Kristina is currently the youth pastor
at Abiding Love Church in Daphne, AL.  She is engaged to her childhood sweetheart whom
she met in the fourth grade. Ms. Kristina comes to Discovery Island with 12 years
experience working with young children. She is currently working on her degree for
Elementary Education. Kristina loves working with children and is excited to be part of the DI
Beverly Carroll, Substitute Teacher
She worked for the Mobile County School Board for 18 years.  When she moved to Orange
Beach she took employment with the Baldwin County School Board working for 12 years at
Orange Beach Elementary School.  Ms. Beverly has experience working at previous daycare
positions and in her church nursey for a combined 13 years.  She has 2 sons, 6 grand
children, and 3 great grandchildren.  She is now at Discovery Island because she still loves
working with children.  We are happy to have her as part of our substitute team.
Jackie Hendrickson, Substitute Teacher
Ms. Jackie has been with Discovery Island since February of 2013.  She grew up near Fort
Wayne, IN.  Jackie attended Brown Mackie College and received a certificate in Medical
Assisting.  Upon completing her certification she chose to attend Ivy Tech Community College
and completed her AA degree in Early Childhood Education.  She is currently attending Grand
Canyon University on line for her Bachelors in Elementary Education.  Jackie and her
husband, Marc, moved to the coast to be closer to the beach and escape the cold winters in
Indiana.  Marc is an elementary school teacher in Florida.  Jackie has worked both full time
and part time over her years at Discovery Island she has spent time in every classroom.  As a
key holder, she is also sometimes responsible for opening or closing the Center.  Jackie and
Marc have two young daughters, Evalynn and Elaina. This winter they will welcome their third
little girl.
Kim Krumm, 1 Year Old Teacher
Ms. Kim is a Robertsdale High School graduate.  After graduation she attended vocational
school for 2 years with Early Childhood Education focus.  Ms. Kim has returned to Discovery
Island after several years away.  Ms. Kim was our One Year Old teacher in our very early years
for approximately 5 years.  She then moved into the Assistant Director position helping Ms.
Melissa manage Discovery Island for almost 10 years.  We are very pleased to have such an
important part of Discovery Island's history back with us.  Ms. Kim has been married for 32
years.  She has two adult sons and enjoys her time with her grandchildren.  Shes loves
walking with her dog, reading, cooking, and watching football.  (Roll Tide!)
Pamela Richert, One Year Old Co-Teacher and Floater
Ms. Pam was born in Pensacola, Florida but has lived in many different places due to her
father serving in the Navy.  She graduated  in Albany, GA in 1977 from Dougherty High
School.  Ms. Pam has been working with children for over 18 years and exclusively in
childcare since 2009. In addition to the 10 hours of training required each year in Florida,
she also has completed the initial 45 training course required in that state.  She currently
lives in the Perdido Key, Florida area.  She has 2 adult children, Elizabeth 28, and Bryan
25.   So far Ms. Pam has no grandchildren, so she devotes that love for children by working
with them in childcare.  She enjoys hobbies knitting and crocheting
Karen Bush Wood, Young 2 Year Old Teacher
After a break from child care, Ms. Karen has returned to Discovery Island because she
missed the children.  Previously Ms. Karen was with Discovery Island spending most of her
time as our infant teacher. She grew up in Grove Hill, AL. After high school she attended and
graduated from Hobson State Technical College. Past work experience includes 20 years
as a managing cosmetologist and owning her own catering business and restaurant. Prior
to joining the DI team she was the toddler teacher for Clarke Prep Daycare and Preschool
in Grove Hill. She was employed there for 4 years and found she loves working with young
children. She has two children of her own Victor and Hannah, who graduated Gulf Shores
High School in 2016. Karen and her daughter attend church at Oyster Bay Baptist. She loves
to cook, sew, and to do all types of crafts including children's clothing and accessories.
Selina Kennedy, Nutrition Specialist
Our Nutrition Specialist was originally raised in the small town of Weaver, AL.  She has
been a resident of Baldwin County for 20 years.  Her background is in Early Childhood
Development and the medical field as a Medical Assistant for a OB/GYN.  She has also
spent time in the hospitality field and has worked towards a degree in Hospitality
Management.  She is the mother to four children and has 5 grandchildren.  She is married
to Thomas.  She loves her four dogs, enjoys reading, exercising, and cooking.  The children
love how she has improved the meals at Discovery Island since beginning with us.  We
appreciate all the fresh and homemade items Ms. Selina has added to our daily meals!
Kaitlyn Sullivan, Afternoon Closing Teacher
Ms. Kaitlyn has her Medical Assistant certification from Fortis College.  She is a lifelong local
girl and is happy to be part of the DI team.  She has one child who comes with her in the
afternoon.  She enjoys being outside with her child and dog.  She loves to sing and dance
having been a long time Performing Arts student.
Raven Newton,  2 1/2 to Young 3 Year Old Teacher
Raven is originally from Thomasville Alabama. She is a graduate of Thomasville
High School. Raven has been working with children for as long as she can remember,
starting as a babysitter, then a nanny, and eventually a teacher at a licensed daycare
in her hometown. Raven has worked with children of all ages. She was the lead
afternoon teacher to children aged 2 1/2 to 8 at her previous center. She enjoys
working with children and seeing them blossom into kind, intelligent individuals.
She moved to Orange Beach with her family in June of 2017. When she is not
working she enjoys music, writing, theatre, and anything that allows her to be creative.
Magan Glass, Substitute Teacher
Ms. Magan comes to us from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  She recently moved to the coast with
her family.  She has 2 years experience working with Toddlers in a facility in her home
town. In college Magan played softball for Snead State.  She is to be here as she loves the
water and sea life.  She is also a talented vocalist and plays guitar.  We quickly noticed
Ms. Magan has an awesome spirit with her class and we are so happy to have her now a
part of the DI Team!
